Vertically Challenged

I've begun to realize I have a very skewed sense of height. If I'm less than half a foot shorter than somebody, I feel as if I'm almost as tall. If it's one or two inches shorter, I actually think I'm taller. I think my brain just isn't used to being almost eye level with people so it gets confused.
